European Union notice on the legal guarantee of conformity

Every LE MARSHAND piece comes with a 3-year legal guarantee of conformity from the day it's delivered, under Spanish consumer law. The EU minimum is 2 years; in Spain it's 3.

The guarantee covers manufacturing defects. It doesn't cover normal wear, knocks, contact with chemicals, or pieces altered or repaired by anyone other than LE MARSHAND. Below you'll find what's covered, how to look after your jewellery and how to make a claim.

1The LE MARSHAND guarantee

For 3 years from delivery, with proof of purchase, we'll repair or replace free of charge any piece that shows a manufacturing defect under normal use and with the care described below: a clasp that won't close, a solder joint that gives way, a stone that comes out of its setting without a knock, plating that is uneven or comes off within the first few weeks.

The guarantee covers manufacturing defects. It isn't insurance against wear, accidents or loss. It doesn't cover normal wear: gold plating is a thin layer over 925 silver or base metal, and it wears away with friction, sweat and time, sooner on rings and bracelets than on earrings and necklaces; silver tarnishes naturally with air and skin; scratches, small marks and chains or cords loosening over time are all part of wearing a piece every day. None of this is a defect. Nor does it cover damage from knocks, drops, bending or accidental breakage; damage from contact with perfume, creams, make-up, chlorine, salt water, cleaning products or other corrosive substances; pieces altered, resized or repaired by anyone other than LE MARSHAND, since any outside work voids the guarantee; or loss of the piece or any part of it.

If your piece isn't covered, or the guarantee has run out, write to us anyway: we'll send you a no-obligation quote for repair, cleaning or re-plating. A repair normally takes 2 to 4 weeks from the day we receive the piece.

2Looking after your jewellery

Our pieces are 925 silver or carry 18k gold plating. The plating is a thin layer of gold: it lasts for years if you look after it, and wears sooner if you don't.

  • Put your jewellery on last, after perfume, creams and make-up, and take it off first.
  • Take it off to sleep, shower, swim in the sea or the pool, exercise and clean the house.
  • Keep it away from strong heat and long spells in direct sun.
  • Clean it with a soft, dry cloth. No liquids, no polishes.
  • Store it in its pouch, away from other pieces, so it doesn't get scratched.

Because each piece is made by hand, there can be small differences from one to the next, and natural stones vary in shade and veining. That's not a defect, that's the piece.

3The legal guarantee of conformity

Independently of the above, you have the rights set out in the Spanish General Law for the Protection of Consumers and Users (Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, articles 114 to 127). LE MARSHAND is liable for any lack of conformity that appears within 3 years of delivery. If a defect appears within the first 2 years, it's presumed to have existed at delivery unless proven otherwise. You may choose between repair and replacement, unless one of them is impossible or disproportionate; if neither is possible, or it isn't done within a reasonable time, you may ask for a price reduction or cancel the contract and get your money back. Repair, replacement and shipping are at our expense. You have 5 years from the day the defect appears to make a claim.

The legal guarantee covers lack of conformity, meaning defects the piece already had when it was delivered. It doesn't cover damage from external causes (knocks, accidents, misuse, chemicals) or normal wear, including loss of plating and tarnishing of silver.
